Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei Attended the “Into Penang - 2022 China-Malaysia Green Development Forum” Cross-Border Matching Event

On July 18, 2022, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei attended the “Into Penang - 2022 China-Malaysia Green Development Forum” cross-border matching event online and delivered a speech. Special Advisor to the Chief Minister of Penang Dato’ Seri Lee Kah Choon, Assistant Manager of China Construction Bank (CCB) International Business Department Madam Li Xiang, and General Manager of CCB (Malaysia) Berhad Mr. Wang Qijie attended the event. The event was jointly organized by CCB (Malaysia) Berhad, Ernst & Young (EY) Malaysia, and 10 CCB branches in China, and was held both online and offline. CCB actively promotes close links between its branches in China and foreign countries by mobilizing social resources from all parties, and creates more opportunities of green investment and development for Penang. 

In his speech, Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that the green development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has made positive progress, the concept of Green Silk Road has been recognized and endorsed by more and more countries. China encourages Chinese enterprises to strengthen cooperation on green energy, and to make overseas investment in green and low-carbon projects. Chinese enterprises also pay more and more attention to reduce the impact on resources and the environment by using more environmental-friendly and efficient technologies in their overseas projects.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that during Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Malaysia, the series of consensus reached by the two sides include advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and particularly pointed out that it is necessary to foster new growth drivers for cooperation such as digital economy and green development, and jointly enhance competitiveness and development level. This event focuses on green development, which is the perfect starting point in the direction of promoting the pragmatic cooperation between China and Malaysia. Ushering in investment in green industry will help to realize the synergy between the Belt and Road cooperation and Malaysia’s development strategy. 

Dato’ Seri Lee Kah Choon said that the Penang State Government attaches great importance to sustainable development, and has chosen the environment, society, and governance (ESG) management concept as one of the key themes of the 50th Anniversary of Penang’s Industrialization this year. More and more enterprises are adopting sustainable development measures and practicing the ESG management concept.

Madam Li Xiang said that CCB actively participates in the practice of green finance, and accelerates the development of green transformation. CCB (Malaysia) Berhad fully supports the development of local green-related industries and enterprises, signs financing agreements, and provides financing support. CCB will actively focus on China-Malaysia green financial cooperation, continuously optimize its products and services, and contribute to the development of China-Malaysia green economy. 

CCB (Malaysia) Berhad awarded “Green Development Partners” to Jinjing Technology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Jinko Solar Technology Sdn. Bhd. The representatives of EY Malaysia, Jinjing, Jinko Solar, and Shanghai Electric made speeches and exchanges on green development.
