According to Malaysian media Nanyang Siang Pau and Oriental Daily, the 24th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2020 will be held from November 18 to 20 at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang this year and it will put offline and online exhibition together. This event was originally scheduled to be held from September 14 to 16 in Penang.
The WCIT has the reputation of the Olympics in the science and technology industry. The theme of the 24th congress in 2020 is “Connecting the World”, setting Penang, Malaysia as a gateway to ASEAN and a linkage to the world. The Congress will discuss how the trend of information science and technology progess will impact society, politics, and economy. There will be more than 120 speakers and experts all over the world to share and exchange their views online. The 2020 World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global ICT Excellence Awards will be presented within nine categories. The Congress is expected to attract more than 3000 online participants from Malaysia and other more than 80 countries, including the leading entrepreneurs of different industries, government leaders, academics, etc.
Penang has been authorized to hold follow-up related activities in August 2021 and June 2022.
