On June 18, 2022, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei attended the opening ceremony of the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Penang 275kV Cross-Sea Transmission Line Project and delivered a speech. Joint Managing Director of China Harbour Southern Pacific Division Mr. Chen Wei, General Manager of Penang 275kV Cross-Sea Transmission Line Project Mr. Allan Shi Bingfeng, more than 40 employees of this project, and the representatives of local media attended the event. 

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei spoke highly of CHEC Construction (M) Sdn. Bhd.’s development achievements in the past 30 years, especially mentioning that from 2008-2014, the company built the sea-crossing Penang Second Bridge, which has brought great significance to the local transportation and people’s travel, economic and social development in Penang, and the cooperation between China and Malaysia. It has also laid a solid foundation for the further implementation of the “go global” strategy of CHEC and has made positive contributions in promoting the cooperation between China and Malaysia to a new level. 

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that this year marks the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, and bilateral relations between the two countries have continued to develop steadily. Malaysia is one of the first countries to support and participate in the Belt and Road cooperation. It is hoped that CHEC Construction (M) Sdn. Bhd. will be able to overcome all difficulties, strive for achievement and play a greater role in promoting the cooperation between the two countries to grow in depth and substance. Chinese Consulate General in Penang will continue to provide support and assistance for the sustainable development of Chinese enterprises in the consular district, and the promotion of exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia.  

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei held discussions with the Chinese employees, listened to the reports made by the relevant person in charge of the operation and production safety of CHEC Southern Pacific Division and the Penang project, and also made on-site safety  inspection to the construction field. Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei emphasized that it is necessary to coordinate epidemic prevention and control measures with production safety, constantly increase safety awareness, prevent and resolve various risks, strictly abide by local laws, and fulfill social responsibilities to show a good image of Chinese enterprises. 

The relevant heads of CHEC present at the ceremony said that they will actively implement the instructions and requirements of Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei and Chinese Consulate General in Penang, strive for new achievements, and make new contributions to the pragmatic cooperation and bilateral relations between China and Malaysia.
