Chinese Consulate General in Penang Held a Farewell Reception for Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei

    On August 16, 2022, the Chinese Consulate General in Penang held a Farewell Reception for Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei. Chief Minister of Penang Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, Chairman of Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH) Mr. Tan Khoon Hai, President of Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) Mr. Hong Yeam Wah, Honorary Secretary of Penang Chinese Girls’ School Board of Directors Mr. Loh Nam Hooi, and General Manager of Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press Mr. Lee Hin Chan  attended the event in person as the representatives of overseas Chinese, businessmen, educationists, and media personnel respectively and delivered speeches. About 300 people attended the event online, including principal officials of the governments of the four states in the consular district, members of the Parliament and State Legislative Assembly, heads of government departments, Consul Generals and Honorary Consul Generals in Penang from various countries, and representatives of overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises, international students, and the media. 

    In his speech, Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei emotionally reviewed the work of the Chinese Consulate General in Penang over the past four years, and expressed his gratitude to the friends from all walks of life in Northern Malaysia, and his reluctance to say goodbye. He said that since taking office, provinces and cities in China and the four states of Northern Malaysia have accomplished extraordinary achievements in exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, culture, education, etc. These achievements are made due to the joint nurturing of the leaders of the two countries, and also by the unremitting support of the people of the two countries and visionary people from all walks of life. It is the result of the joint efforts of both sides. Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei sincerely thanked the governments of the consular district and all circles of the society for their strong support to the work of the Chinese Consulate General in Penang and himself, and is proud to have developed the precious friendship with the people in the consular district. He expressed that he will always be a friend of the people in the consular district, and forever a messenger of China-Malaysia friendship. He hoped that everyone will seize the opportunities, build on past achievements and forge ahead into the future, and jointly push bilateral relationship to scale new heights.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei expounded China’s position and principles on the recent visit of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. He said that this event reflects the U.S.’s attempt to use Taiwan to contain China, obstruct China’s reunification, and disrupt China’s development.China’s national rejuvenation has become a historical inevitability, and no external forces can stop us from moving forward!

    Mr. Chow Kon Yeow spoke highly of the sincere friendship between Malaysia and China, and highly praised the outstanding contributions made by Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei in promoting the development of China-Malaysia relations, and bilateral exchanges and cooperation during his tenure. He expressed his reluctance on Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei’s departure, and believed that the friendship between the two countries will grow stronger and closer in the future.

Mr. Tan Khoon Hai, Mr. Hong Yeam Wah, Mr. Loh Nam Hooi, and Mr. Lee Hin Chan fully affirmed the contributions made by Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei in promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia at the national and local levels in various fields, and promoting China-Malaysia friendship. They thanked Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei for his strong support and active participation in many activities in the consular district, expressed their reluctance on Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei’s departure, and sent their best wishes.

At the reception, guests from various circles of the society also shared short videos of Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei interacting with people in Northern Malaysia during his tenure, and the affectionate messages from friends from all walks of life. In the end, Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei proposed a toast to bid farewell to everyone, wishing China and Malaysia prosperity, peace and good health, and wishing for a flourishing and long-lasting friendship between China and Malaysia! The reception lasted for nearly an hour, and ended in a warm and touching atmosphere.
