Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei Met with Young Volunteers of the Penang Chinese Clan Council

On July 3, 2020, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei met with the delegation of young volunteers of the Penang Chinese Clan Council led by Yeap Beow Chong, Chairman of the Penang Chinese Clan Council, and exchanged views on the Meng Eng Soo Virtual Open Day, the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture by the younger generation, etc.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that during the special period of the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers team of the Penang Chinese Clan Council has overcome all kinds of difficulties to organize a virtual open day in the forms of “virtual tour”, “virtual explanation”, etc. This is a good try to inherit Chinese culture. Encouraging young volunteers to get involved and participate in the event is of great significance to the development of traditional culture and personal growth. Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei encouraged the volunteers to continue to utilise their advantages, strengthen their learning and training, and undertake the missions of passing on and inheriting traditional culture and friendship between China and Malaysia.

Yeap Beow Chong said that, with the aim of promoting cultural inheritance and cultivating the younger generation, the Penang Chinese Clan Council has insisted on organizing the Meng Eng Soo Open Day for 12 consecutive years. The event has kept rising in popularity and has attracted many youngsters to participate in. The council will continue its effort to contribute to the inheritance of Chinese culture.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei also recorded a video of opening remarks for the Meng Eng Soo Virtual Open Day live broadcast hosted by the Penang Chinese Clan Council which will be held on July 7.
