Facing the grave challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and serious global economic recession, the entire nation of China rallied behind a common purpose under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and forged ahead despite all the difficulties. China was the first to contain the virus and to restore economic growth, and became the only major economy to achieve positive growth. China achieved decisive success in eradicating extreme poverty and made the historic achievement of establishing a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Over the past year, the governments and peoples of China and Malaysia extended sincere assistance to each other in the joint fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The two countries only deepen the traditional friendship in the fight against the pandemic, but also overcome the difficulties caused by the pandemic to ensure that the economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia kept growing despite the challenges and difficulties. The bilateral trade volume between China and Malaysia reached US$131.16 billion, with an increase of 5.7% year-on-year. China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years. After tested by the COVID-19 pandemic, the defining feature of China-Malaysia friendly relations becomes more distinctive with broader prospects.
