Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei Published a Signed Article on China’s Development in Malaysian Media

On February 5, 2021, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei published a signed article titled “China’s Development Brings Opportunities to the World” in Malaysian media Kwong Wah Yit Poh. Sin Chew Daily, Guang Ming Daily, Nanyang Siang Pau, and other media published the main points of the article.

The article pointed out that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world economy was mired in deep recession in 2020. China became the only major economy to achieve positive growth, with its gross domestic product (GDP) exceeding the 100-trillion-yuan threshold. China achieved decisive success in eradicating extreme poverty, and achieved the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Despite the adverse impact brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, China’s foreign trade and foreign investment kept growing and the foreign direct investment (FDI) flows to China rose to a record high. China has kept making steady progress in the Belt and Road cooperation and continuously advancing opening-up to a higher level.

China’s development brings opportunities to the world. Based on China’s new development stage, China implements the new development philosophy, and fosters a new development paradigm. It is much more obvious than ever that China is playing its role as the locomotive of global economy. China will open its door wider to better pursue mutual benefits and win-win cooperation with other countries.

China-Malaysia trade volume has exceeded US$100 billion for 3 consecutive years. China has become Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years, and remained as Malaysia’s largest source of foreign investment in the manufacturing industry for 4 consecutive years. 2021 is the inaugural year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. Malaysia is also formulating the 12th Malaysia Plan 2021-2025. It is expected that China and Malaysia would further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, share opportunities, intensively align and coordinate the development strategies of the two countries, strengthen anti-epidemic cooperation and economic and trade cooperation, and jointly promote economic recovery and development.
