On December 26, 2020, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei attended the inauguration ceremony of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) Malaysia Northern Region & Alumni Association and a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) seminar, and delivered a speech. Mr. Yeoh Soon Hin, Executive Councilor of Penang , Mr. Teh Lai Heng, Political Secretary of Penang Chief Minister, Mr. Tan Khoon Hai, Deputy Chairman of Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH), Mr. Loh Nam Hooi, President of the Federation of Chinwoo Athletic Association Malaysia, Madam Tan Pin Tin, President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) Malaysia Northern Region & Alumni Association, etc. attended the event.

Consul General Lu Shiwei stated in his speech that Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) Malaysia Northern Region & Alumni Association is the first alumni association with a professional TCM background in Northern Malaysia. The establishment of the alumni association shows the high-level educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia, and also shows the vigorous development of TCM in Malaysia and even all around the world. TCM is the treasure of Chinese culture. The Chinese government has long been attaching great importance to the development of TCM. The Chinese government sent a team of medical experts led by an expert in TCM to help Malaysia cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. TCM played a vital role in China's and world's fight against COVID-19. Consul General Lu Shiwei looks forward to seeing more and more young faces to join the big family of TCM cooperation in the future, inject new vitality into the development of TCM in Malaysia, and make more contributions to the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia.

Mr. Yeoh Soon Hin said that TCM is a great and profound treasure, which is left by the ancestors. At present, the world is in the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. China has played an exemplary role in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. The combination of modern medicine and the wisdom of TCM has played a positive role in turning the situation of COVID-19 pandemic around.

This event was held online and offline by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) Malaysia Northern Region & Alumni Association. Three famous experts in TCM including Dr. Zhang Rongzhen, who is the representative of the National People’s Congress of China, and Director of Wuhu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Anhui province, etc. were invited to give online lectures on TCM. They explained the effect of integration of medical treatment and medical care by TCM for the prevention and control of COVID-19 and also made interactions on this topic. Many TCM professionals from the TCM associations, institutes, clinics, etc. in the consular district attended the seminar online via video.
