2021/02/18

On February 8, 2021, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei met with Penang State Executive Councillor Soon Lip Chee at the Consulate General, and exchanged views on the local exchanges between China and Malaysia after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Consul General Lu Shiwei welcomed Mr. Soon Lip Chee and his delegation’s visit just before the Chinese New Year, and expressed Chinese New Year blessings to them. Consul General Lu Shiwei said that Chinese Consulate General has been paying close attention to the epidemic situation in the consular district and Malaysia, and hopes that Malaysia can contain the virus at the earliest possible time, so that the the exchanges between China and Malaysia in national and local levels would be fully restored at an earlier stage. We are happy to see that the bilateral local exchanges and cooperation were not interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Anhui Province and Penang State signed a letter of intent to establish friendly inter-provincial relations last year via online, bringing new achievement to the local exchanges between China and Malaysia. You led a delegation to visit Anhui in 2019, and laid a solid foundation for this new achievement. I really appreciate it.

Mr. Soon Lip Chee extended Chinese New Year greetings to Consul General Lu Shiwei. He said that under the strong leadership and with the great foresight of Chinese President Xi Jinping, China adopted strict and effective prevention and control measures, and was the first country to contain the COVID-19 virus. It has provided valuable experiences to other countries, which is worth learning for Malaysia. The trip to Anhui in 2019 left me deep impression. I expect that the COVID-19 epidemic situation will be improving gradually in Malaysia and the good momentum of the local exchanges between China and Malaysia could be restored at an earlier stage.
